Answering your most frequently asked questions about Christian counseling.

FAQ’s

What is progressive Christianity?

A Progressive Christian believes in the bigness of God’s love and that the table really is meant for all people. We value mystery and therefore don’t need to know the answers to all our spiritual questions. We take the bible seriously, but don’t need it’s teaching to be literal for Christianity to still have a beautiful, meaningful impact on our lives -- both spiritual and otherwise.

God is in all of us but also out in the world. We can experience the divine spirit between us as we love, respect, and care for one another. Learn more about Progressive Christianity.

Does your team identify as Christian?

People often ask, are you and your team of licensed mental health therapists Christian counselors? Before telling you how we’re different, let's lay out what Christian Counseling is. Christian counseling integrates evangelical principles into mental health treatment. There’s an emphasis on using the Bible as the main and only guide through life's issues. A Christian counselor often brings up biblical passages, incorporates biblical principles as a model or may pray with clients.

What if I do not identify as a Christian?

Our services are built from the need to counsel and provide therapy to Christians who may not have other options with mental health professionals. We do not require anyone to be of any faith.

Do you use the bible in counseling?

We believe the Bible holds incredible importance in understanding our God but also believe God's truths live in many different forms and so we can point to podcasts, novels, an experience in nature, intimacy with another human being, art in addition to more traditional spiritual practice like pray as ways of finding guidance in our lives and healing for our pain. As Christian counselors we don’t bring the idea of sin into our therapeutic services but we do spend time being curious about how past pain, trauma and ways we live have separated us from our deepest most true selves and therefore have brought about a deeper angst in our lives, separating us from truly connecting with others and God.

So yes, we are a team of Christian counselors who references the bible but probably not like you’ve seen before. We are prepared to integrate psychological theories with spiritual principles but not in a prescriptive or limiting way. We absolutely encourage our clients to grow in their relationship with God but we also encourage them to grow in their connection with the earth, themselves, pleasure, pain and in the faces of those around them.

How do I know which therapist is right for me?

No need to be overwhelmed or discouraged if you’ve had a hard time finding the right counselor, this is a risk free way to interview your therapist. You will get the most out of your counseling sessions and the work will move more quickly if you work with a Christian counselor that really gets issues like deconstruction and reconstruction of faith, purity culture and spiritual abuse as well as identity issues focused on faith.

Finding the right counselor can sometimes be a process though we will work with you during your initial intake to determine your preferences and challenges in fitting you with the right therapist. Please read through the bios of our team to get a feel of their various specialties. You are always welcome to change your counselor.

How much does online counseling cost?

Our services vary based on which counselor you work with. Rates start at $165 per session.
